BLACK HISTORY HEROes

Only a Few of Our Faves

Many were those who paved the way.

Many are those about whom we have ZERO knowledge related to their names, their contributions, and their legacy.

Think of the countless generations of leaders, as well as workers behind brilliant minds; those who believed, supported or simply obeyed. Were it not for these visionaries, these dedicated faithfuls, we would be far less than what we are, today.

Though it is unnecessary to know their complete history (and impossible to account for each and every one), it would do us well - as we do our part in making life good - to learn what we can about whom we can as well as what they had accomplished. At the very least, we should send gratitude to all before us. We should  reflect upon the sacred literature of ancient African tradition, where we honour our mothers and fathers, as our children are expected to do of us, one day.

Queen Amanirenas of Kush in Nubia was legendary for her tactical prowess and battle bravery. After Rome moved into neighboring Egypt, the emperor at the time declared that Kush must pay Rome taxes. Queen Amanirenas took her son and 30,000 troops to a Rome controlled  Egyptian city, and sacked their fort. As one would expect, Rome retaliated. What was unexpected was the strong resistance the lead general ran into, having had several Roman forts sacked across Southern Egypt, and three Roman troops destroyed in the process. After three years of fighting, Rome agreed to a peace treaty with Queen Amanirenas. The tax levy was rescinded and the mighty Roman Empire did not conquer Kush.
